 See you later!

Toronto

I’m going on vacation to the city tomorrow. If you’re in Toronto, give me a call! I’m going to be there for about a week and I’ll have lots of free time to hang out.

If you’re in Owen Sound.. I’ll be checking my e-mail whenever possible, but probably not frequently. I’ll respond to text messages if I have time, but don’t be offended if you don’t get a reply instantly. I’ll probably not answer calls from Owen Sound, as I can’t afford the long distance charges. If it’s an emergency, leave a message. I’ll check those lots. I haven’t got a definite time to be back yet, but it will likely be next Sunday. Have a fun week! I’ll miss you guys!

 De-classified C.I.A. documents.

Big Brother is Watching You!I was just watching the noon news. Their headlining story was that the C.I.A. is de-classifying hundreds of documents. They don’t know why they have decided to. But these documents contain information like what phones they were tapping of American citizens, foreign leaders they attempted to assisinate. Castro for example. I am currently trying to see if I can find this stuff online. If this interests anyone else they should check it out. the news story even mentioned that they were tapping John Lennon’s phones back in the day. That Liberal reporter Brit Hume from Fox news was also being watched by them. A washington post Journalist was watched and they even would take pictures of who he had lunch with etc. They would steal Jane Fonda’s personal mail back in the day when she was an activist. Makes you wonder what they know about who. Not even celbrities are safe from their invasion of privacy.

 Last Chance To See

Last Chance to SeeReccomended Reading: Last Chance to See, by Douglas Adams (the author of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy). I’ve just finished what I think is one of the funniest non-fiction books I’ve ever read. Douglas has a special talent for exposing the ridiculousness of humanity in a way that can make you feel frustrated, but laugh about the absurdity of it all at the same time. Last Chance to See chronicles his adventures travelling accross the planet with zoologist Mark Carwardine in search of some severely endangered species. I suggest you track down a copy (there’s one at our local library, or rather, there will be once I remember to return it) and give it a read. It’s not terribly long, and it’s hilarious and informative. And in Douglas’ opinion (and mine), the very best of all his works.

If you’ve read the book, or are just curious, and have Google Earth, you can download a tour of the various places they visited. (just open the file in Google Earth and click Play in the places bar)

I’ve also just discovered that the bulk of the book is available online, with pictures!

The Snowbirds

Tomorrow (Wednesday June 20) at 6:15pm the Canadian Forces Demonstration Team (aka. The Snowbirds) will be flying around Owen Sound. It’s their first performance since one of their members died in a crash over Toronto. They’re flying over my house today making a hell of a lot of noise. I’ll probably go check it out. You should come too! More info from the Owen Sound Sun Times.

What the hell is the matter with you?

It’s situations like this where I really don’t know where to begin or what to say. I saw something tonight that I really don’t agree with or understand.

I was walking by the armoury and the tank in the front had the american flag maple leaf tagged onto it. I know who did it, why they did it, I don’t know - well, I have a pretty good idea why, but doing so was very contradictory and disrespectful. Suffice it to say I have totally lost respect for the people involved.

fascismDr. Lawrence Britt has examined the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia) and several Latin American regimes. Britt found 14 defining characteristics common to each:

1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism - Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.

 Dear People of Toronto

Toronto

I miss your city. I think I will move there soon. Please keep your eyes open for any bachelor or one bedroom appartments that are $550 or less, utilities included, (I know that’s a tall order, but I’m on a pretty tight budget) preferably near some TTC action. The beginning of September would be an ideal time for it to be available. The sooner I know the better.
