What we think, we become. Those are words spoken by the Buddha and are a fundamental philosophy in Buddhism. Buddhism revolves around the teachings of the Buddha. The purpose of this report is to discuss who the Buddha is; also, what the four noble truths, the eightfold path, karma, the three jewels, and Bodhi are.

Vote Turmel - Only Parliament Can Resurrect Marijuana Prohibition!by: drift - [Contributors] |
|
You might have heard something or other about John Turmel when he marched up onto Parliament Hill, joints ablazed, and got busted with 3 kilos of marijuana (as he was on his way to deliver a pound or two to Prime Minister Jean Chretien) on May 15, 2003 - but did you know he set precedents which ended Prohibition in 2001, dropped 4,000 charges across Canada AND acquited him of the previous “offence”?
It sure is difficult to take yourself seriously when it comes down to picking and choosing your favourite politician today, especially when those responsible for bringing you the critical analysis from which you might derive a knowledgeable opinion keep accidentally referring to you as a ‘consumer’ instead of a citizen. They just keep ‘psyching’ you out, ‘em rascals! Well, this is a little off topic but you should ask a Mr. Edward Bernays if he knows anything about that… Yes indeed, a little political misappropriation of Freudian psychology sure helps make for a questionable (to put it mildly) rendition of democracy in the free-mark..*ahem* I mean, world. Luckily enough though for our hopelessly done-for species there’s John ‘the Engineer’ Turmel on the scene with an absurdist prescription for our likewise absurd socio-political climate.

Governments are the biggest pushersby: Subversive - [Contributors] |
|
According to documents that came out this week, the Canadian Gov’t gets a 1500% markup on the medical marijuana that it has a monopoly on (CBC News). It pays $328.75 per kg. for the stuff and charges patients $5,000 per kilo. Is that a criminal street rate of profit or what? But then they argue that legalizing and regulating pot would be an affront to the nation’s morality!

- how can we encourage more community involvement?
- any other comments or suggestions?
Your answers will be very helpful to us! If you don’t want to comment, you can also e-mail Calvin.

I have an account with ING, which I use for saving up money. That a bank account could be used for saving money will not come as a surprise to most, but what I was met with on the way back from the mailbox probably will.
He had long white hair surrounding his entire face like mountain-top storm clouds. He was wearing long, flowing robes. He was short. He looked like he would be respectable in the eyes of his fellows.
He looked like a religious leader.
In some parts of Toronto that’s almost normal.

We now interupt you crying about the 23 who died at Virgina Techby: snug_bunny - [Sunday Snuggle] |
|
Why is no one whining and crying, and having huge 5 day media coverage stories for the two hundreds of people who died the other day in iraq?
Yesterday will go down as a day of infamy for Iraqis who are repeatedly told by the US that their security is improving. Almost 200 people were killed on one of the bloodiest days of the four-year-old war, when car bombs ripped through four neighbourhoods across Baghdad, exposing the failure of the two-month-old US security plan.
(news.independent.co.uk)
Did any of you even know that happened?

That blessed 4:20by: Xonogenic - [Contributors] |
|
So I decided I wanted to write about this commonly celebrated time and date. Most of you I am sure are aware it is a common time for marijuana use. If you don’t know that, you have been living under a rock or under God. I hope it is the rock. It is also the day Hitler was born. And also the date of the columbine shootings. So you have many reasons to spark up. Once for hitler. Twenty some odd bowls for the columbine victims. And at 4:20 A.M. and 4:20 P.M. So if you don’t have a reason to get high, I just gave you many. Don’t worry. Jesus does it too.

Those ROOTS clothesby: Subversive - [Contributors] |
|
According to a study done by the University of Michigan School of Business at the Kagawong campus, young women between the ages of 18 and 23 are more than 17% as likely to snag a good date as their friends if they are wearing name-brand clothing. The study, done using random samplings from local University watering-holes (bars) suggests that identifying yourself with a successful group through branding can lead to more fun and games. The study established that exotic brands seemed to attract more attention than local brands. For instance, wearing a UCLA sweatshirt at a University of Michigan function would garner much more attention than a local U of M sweatshirt. Likewise, a well-known name brand such as Roots was much more attention getting than say, wearing something with a cheap brand name such as Walmart or Zehrs. Also, showing up at a bar wearing your uniform from McDonalds would guarantee a bad night.
So what about a TCOW shirt? Would that get you the right kind of attention? Or would it get any attention at all? Would it be better to get the shirt made in Hong Kong or New York? The danger in Hong Kong is that the people doing the shirt would translate something wrong. Would you like your shirt to say “The Cow of Weirdness” ? I think not. What would your design look like?

Devon’s been sick, so there’s no Sunday Snuggle from her today!
I woke up at about 5:30am to what sounded like a mouse eating pizza. It wouldn’t be the first time a mouse had decided to help itself to left out leftovers. Thorough searching revealed no sign of any mouse however. Since I was up anyways I thought I’d better check on my computer. Only one RSS feed had new content. It was Matt Good’s blog. He’s usually got interesting stuff. This morning he had linked from YouTube a video about a guy who tried to fit into the Muslim culture for a month. It runs about 40 minutes, and it’s well worth the watch.

Ring Ring Neo… or maybe not.by: Calvin - [Calvin's bLog] |
|

Countless times since I got my cellphone, I’d be away from it, or listening to music, or watching TV, and could swear I heard it ring, only to check and find out that noone was calling. Other people have mentioned similar occurances from time to time. I didn’t worry about it too much until it started happening at an ever increasing frequency. Fearing for my sanity, I decided I should do a bit of research to see if I could find any helpful information. The first thing I found was this article from the New York Times, which while suggesting plausible causes for the phenomena, failed to offer any solutions.

Holiday Namesby: Calvin - [Calvin's bLog] |
|
Sometimes it’s hard to tell what holidays are really about (aside from making millions of dollars on otherwise un-sellable holiday specific merchandise) based on their names alone. So I am proposing that we change the rather undescriptive name of today’s holiday from “Good Friday” to “Dead Jesus Day” to more accurately reflect its reason for being. Then I thought, that might upset some of the non-religious groups. They don’t like to be left out either. So an extended “Dead Jesus and Chocolate Rabbit Day” might be more accurately descriptive. Now, before the Jesus fans get upset about this idea, there’s no need to worry, because the word on the street is that he’s coming back on Sunday! Make sure you leave milk and cookies by the chimney.
Or maybe I’m just upset because the Bean Cellar is closed today.

Love crimes.by: Xonogenic - [Contributors] |
|
Why can’t everyone just do more of these. I am sick of white people shooting black people. Mexicans, the French. Just shoot or shank your fellow skin coloured neighbour. All these morally questionable murders make it tough for the rest of us. You need to only kill white, straight, men. That is a love crime if you are a white, straight, man. It is acceptable and you will get less time in prison. So make sure, if you want to off a black guy, or a gay guy, or a mexican. You got to hire a black guy, gay guy, or a mexican to do it. Then you have succesfully been a moral human being and commited what would usually be a hate crime, in a very loving way.

I have finally after 2 weeks of downloading and perseverance gotten the Bible audio book. If you would like a copy it will be the same price as the Book of Mormon, except it takes 1.5 dvd disks to hold. If you would like a copy of either one it will cost $2 (unless you provide your own DVD-R).
