I apologize mostly to the people who showed up just as everyone had to leave. Don’t worry, there will be another one soon enough. Thanks for coming out! You’re all teriffic! :)

Hey all you Summerfolk enthusiasts, there’s a couple of events coming up very soon (saturday!) that you should know about! Sorry for the short notice. I sort of forgot about them until Lauren sent me the posters today. Don’t trust my memory at parties Lauren! :P

Discoveries Showcase Handout.jpg       Discoveries Showcase Poster.jpg

Saturday afternoon at the Bayshore Community Centre, is the Discoveries Showcase. The one and only Lauren Best will be there, and I’m sure there will be lots of other exciting local musicians, AND it’s free, so you should all come out if you’re able. Check out the flyers above for all the details.

Saturday night is the Last Chance Saloon, also at the Bayshore. Door open at 6:30pm, performers start at 7:00pm. Admission is $10.00 for members of the Georgian Bay Folk Society, $12.00 otherwise. There’s a bit more information at the bottom of this page.

 Hate Laws

 by: sofa - [Contributors]

Gay Hate Crimes
(Click the chart to expand it.)

Gay Man’s Death May Change Hate Laws…
The chart above clearly shows that crimes against gay men outnumber every other sexual orientation-related crime. Andrew Anthos was one of these gay men. His death has subsequently prompted state Senator Hansen Clarke to “introduce legislation to amend Michigan’s Ethnic Intimidation Act” (which I get the feeling doesn’t include anything pertaining to gay rights, at the moment).

Clarke states in the article, “The whole point is making sure that people have equal rights in the legal system, people aren’t picked on or threatened just because they look or act differently,” which I don’t agree with, to a point. I believe that when stripped to the bare facts, those of an ethnic minority are “picked on” for looking differently, and gays are “picked on” for acting differently. However, there is some truth in his statement. These minorities are also threatened out of fear. But will these people fear the law more?

I am pessimistic that amending these laws will have much of an immediate effect, but I am confident that ideals will change over time, anyway.

 Hotties beware

 by: Subversive - [Contributors]
Subversive

hot enough for you?A news report yesterday proved once again that Americans are more consumed with looks than ever. Now there is a dating website that only allows you to join if all the other users who vote on your looks allow you to pass their inspection. You are required to provide at least three photos of yourself to be inspected by the self-appointed hottie police who run this site. Even if you think you are hot they may not. Apparently only one of four applicants are accepted. Where would that leave you? Or do you care? Come on now. I know that most of you care, even though you might claim that you don’t.

 Horrorscope!

 by: Calvin - [Calvin's bLog]
Calvin

Last night I decided to abort half way through trying to do a new install of WinXP. After several dozen reboots from installing drivers, searching the internet for drivers and install files I’d lost, trying to find out where Windows stores my e-mail, and so on, I got fed up and stopped. I realized my current install is working alright, so I reverted back to it and gave up. I figured I could just clean it up a little. Then today Jaime sent me my horroscope. It seems slightly ominous and forboding…

Skimping on something that requires a higher standard could result in false economy. Somewhere along the line, it will mean starting from scratch. So rather than applying a rickety patch, it would be wiser to do a full repair. (from The Toronto Star)

 Who needs sleep?

 by: Bert - [Contributors]
Bert

sleepy kitten.. awwwwz!Sleep. Is it really all that important? Most people say so. Most people with some sort of credentials in the field of the human body say it is necessary to get regular sleep in order to survive. Sleep apparently has all sorts of other benefits to our bodies. Through study it has been determined to be a natural period of renewal for our body. The rate of cell breakdown decreases, while the rate of cell synthesis increases. It is generally stated that seven to nine hours is the optimal amount of sleep for an adult human. Also, missing sleep one night and trying to catch up by sleeping extra the next night is apparently not very effective, as it generally only further disrupts your bodies natural sleep patterns.

 Bad Guys

 by: sofa - [Contributors]
sofa

You know what I want? I want to see a film that follows a bad guy. No, not one of those stereotypical bad guys who is really fighting for a good cause, while all the people around him (the authorities) appear to be the real bad guys. I want a story in which the main character is a rapist or murder. I want to begin the film with most (hopefully all) people hating him or her, and move on from there. I want to see either how far the hate can go, or how much people can change their minds based on simple character development. I don’t want there to be a specific “good guy”, who the audience prays for to win. I don’t necessarily want the main character to get caught, or to not get caught. I just want his evilness to appear be genuine.

(No reality crap. I want this to be realistic fiction, good filming, good detail…)

I’d love it if there was a new post up every day, the bulk of them being written by you guys.

This year Summerfolk is August 17th to 19th, though I plan to start camping on the 15th. Even if you don’t get tickets to the show, there’s always plenty of fun times to be had around the campfire. I hope to see lots of you there!

The Debate Continues...‘Global Warming Is Lies’ Claims Documentary

Not the best choice of words for an article on such a sensitive and controversial subject… I suspect this would cause immediate aversion in the minds of most remotely environmentally conscious folk today.

It does however bring up issues that i myself have been a skeptic of since Al Gore rose to fame with his documentary, An Inconvenient Truth.

 Swallowing.

 by: Xonogenic - [Contributors]
Xonogenic

on a completely unrelated note...Studies have shown that if you swallow semen, it will improve your protein levels in your blood. It helps your blood maintain its anti-bodies which fight off disease and infection. Which also makes your blood flow better maintaining your hearts health. “Swallowing twice a day can add year to your life!” says one Florida State University Professor. So ladies. You can make your man happy and keep your body in good health in all one very enjoyabl activity. I for one am volunteering myself as a heart health specialist. If you haven’t had your two full servings a day, you can call me. And for a nominal fee, I will keep your ticker going longer than you had hoped. With heart disease being the number one killer in Canada, I am a necasary service. Cheers!

 Sleep Naked!

 by: sofa - [Contributors]
sofa

sleepnaked.org says “Not only is sleeping naked more comfortable, but it’s good for your health too. Increasing your level of comfort makes it easier for you to relax and sleep, so you get a better night’s kip. The resulting deeper, longer sleep makes it easier for your body to regenerate and repair itself, and build up your energy for the day ahead.”

There are also added sexual benefits. Some of the most common reasons not to sleep naked are: fear, temperature, and your partner not liking it. If you have any questions you should check out the Sleep Naked website.

The Acoustic Stylings of Don Ross

 by: Calvin - [Calvin's bLog]
Calvin

Don Ross is my hero! And unlike other heroes, he's not going to explode and destroy the world! My guitar is in the shop, so I’ve been watching guitar players on YouTube instead. I’ve taken a liking to the playing of Don Ross. He’s a Canadian originally, but he tours all over the world now, and he does things with an acoustic guitar the likes of which I’ve never seen before! (No, not things like that you sick bastards, though he does describe his playing style as “heavy wood”.) It’s all instrumental, so if you’re looking for catchy pop melodies with easy lyrics, you’re out of luck. But if you enjoy intricate, technical, yet beautiful sounding acoustic guitar melodies, you might like him.

 Monkey Knife Fight

 by: Jaime - [Contributors]
Jaime

(Picture and link added by Calvin)Alright, so i have a deep routed fear and hatred towards monkeys. Why? one might ask…

Well, you see, its actually a pretty funny story [now].
I think i was about four, sitting at the toronto zoo, happily gazing down at the [filthy] monkeys, when, out of nowhere one crazy deranged hate filled monkey ran up and smacked the glass, directly where my face was!

Being four, this was rather terrifying. And now due to [most likely] further psychological damage i dislike monkeys and cringe away from the sight of them in movies, on tv, or this random statue in the one strore i went into once… and even the [apperently] cute monkey in Jons appartment.. that is now hanging on dental floss ( or was ) AND should be appearing in a stop animotion movie Jon and I made (hint hint Jon)…

EITHER way, you crazy monkey loving people, stop with all the monkey stuff!

Do it elk style. I’m not typically interested in this style of art. I lean more to the aesthetic, pretty side of the scale, than the conceptual. However, I was browsing the internet when I stumbled across an impressive surrealist/dada/nonsensical photographer. His name is Geoffrey Cottenceau. (Click on the images to expand the series.)

 I Like Monkeys

 by: icarusiscariot - [Contributors]
icarusiscariot

I like monkeys. The pet store was selling them for five bucks a piece. I thought that odd since they were normally a couple thousand. I decided not to look a gift horse in the mouth, so I bought 200. I like monkeys.

I took my 200 monkeys home. I have a big car. I let one drive. I named him Sigmund. He was retarded. In fact, none of them were really bright. They kept punching themselves in their genitals. I laughed. Then they punched my genitals. I stopped laughing.

If your monkey is emitting a stench that is impossible to both eliminate and hide, you are in need of MADI (Monkey Anti-Perspirant Deodorant Inc.). Products range from (and are limited to) “Chimp Stick”, and “Go Ape!”.

“Active ingredient: Primateylene glycol… Primateylene glycol is a derivative of natural gas. It is commonly used in a variety of consumer products and food products, including deodorants, pharmaceuticals, moisturizing lotions, and fat-free ice cream and sour cream products.”

There’s even a testimonial from Michael Jackson, if you’re really worried about it’s effectiveness.
