There’s a comedian on TV (that’s where they often are) and he was making some joke about the fiberglass mooses in Toronto. It made me think of a funny story that happened to me. Really!
I was on a streetcar in Toronto this once. I think I was with James. I can’t remember, but that’s not the important bit. A couple of ladies came up to us and explained that they were on this city wide scavenger hunt or something like that, and they needed to find “a statue of the largest land mammal”. Then they asked us, in all seriousness “Is a moose or an elephant bigger?” I think we told them elephant. We were nice and waited until they were off the streetcar to start laughing incredulously.
The point is, now I want to go to the zoo. Drunk.

I’m curious. What is the real problem with biases in the media? Sure, a journalist’s job entails informing the masses, not promoting a one-sided opinion (unless of course they write an opinion column). But how many news agencies actually allow for the unprejudiced publication of news? What self-proclaimed intelligent person only consults one source? Why must we expect the people who write the news to give us what we want, why can’t we get it ourselves?

So I have gotten into this discussion a lot lately. I got into it hardcore with my father who sais that it is a bunch of bullshit created by Liberals. It is something that is finally being taken seriously. Though I am not sure we are actually worried about the environment or votes anymore. Since polls have discovered that a majority of the people who vote consider the environment one of the biggest issues. We saw Harpur replace his environment minister soon after these polls where conducted. Do we actually care? Is it even preventable at this stage? We are trying to sustain a way of life that seems to be slowly killing us. But is anyone willing to give up the comforts of there life to change this.

How to Boil Water
Boiling water is a very important thing to know how to do when cooking things that need to be boiled in water. First get a pot. The size of the pot will vary depending on what and how much you are going to boil. Next fill the pot with water. Place the pot of water on top of the stove element you wish. Once the pot is on the stove place the lid of the pot on the pot. The next step is very important, turn the heat dial to the highest setting it can go to. It is important not to place the heat at a low temperature, this will prevent the water from boiling. Leave the pot for a few minutes then come back and remove the lid carefully. It’s best to ues an oven mit or pot holder when removing the lid, for the lid maybe hot and may burn your hand. Look inside the pot. If you followed all the previous steps correctly but there are no little bubbles, bubbling about you probably have to give the water more time. If you notice lots of bubbles, bubbling about then you have boiled your water correctly.

Nothing exciting to report really. There was a party by accident here last night. Next time more warning would be nice, but oh well. It was good fun! We might have to do something about the smoking in the house though. With that many people here it can get kind of hard to breath. And there’s a few people who don’t take to well to it. Hopefully the snow will go away soon and you can go out back to do it, and it won’t be an issue then.
Who’s interested in going to see the Reno 911 movie? Some folk expressed interest in getting a group going, possibly on a tuesday night, as it’s cheap night. Comment here, or talk to me on MSN, or wherever. If there’s enough interest I’ll organize an official event.

Computer Updateby: Calvin - [Calvin's bLog] |

The problem was indeed the power supply. It’s up and running now, minus the new x800. I’m tired of trying to figure that out tonight, so I’m leaving in until tomorrow. In the meantime, I’ve at least got one monitor up.

Computer Troublesby: Calvin - [Calvin's bLog] |

I’m making this entry from Martin’s laptop. My computer has stopped working. Might be the power supply. Martin will be bringing another soon to check that possibility. Until then however, I will have very limited access to computers, so the best way to get ahold of me in the near future will be via the telephone.

Oh yeah. I’ve returned. I couldn’t quite shake the cold, or whatever it is, that’s been making my head feel like glue’s been poured into all my breathing holes and my eyeballs like they’ve had led injected directly into them. The fever seems to be gone at least. Hooray Toronto! It was an adventure for sure. But not as good as Alex’s adventure, which I’m going to tell now instead of mine (other than to note that I had the unexpected pleasure of listening to Jack Layton speak live about minimum wage increase).
Devon and I ran into Alex at our stopover in Barrie on the way home. He’d gone to Toronto on friday. On his way down apparently he and some other passengers smelled smoke coming from the back of the bus. They assumed someone was smoking in the bathroom or something. Then a “crazy lady” came out of the bathroom and let everyone know, with a smile on her face, that she’d just lit the bathroom on fire. Alex notified the bus driver, at which point they stopped, and the fire department arrived to save the day. Then the crazy lady punched a fireman in the face. She obviously realized this wasn’t nice however, because then she proceeded to insist on trying to hug the fireman, until the police arrived to take her away. I didn’t see it. I wish I had. But the story was independantly confirmed to me by other passangers who’d been on that bus as well.
And that’s why we should have left on friday. Damn you pieday!

If the roads are not so bad that Greyhound won’t drive on them, and I hear they’ll drive through nearly anything, I will be leaving for Toronto at 6:30am tomorrow. I will hopefully be coming back with the good video camera, which is finally repaired. There won’t be a TV night this Sunday, as I won’t be getting back until late in the evening.
Monday I am working at the store from aproximately 10am to 6pm, so if you’re bored feel free to drop by there and entertain me.
That is all. Goodnight.

Wanted: Funny Writersby: Calvin - [Calvin's bLog] |

As soon as I get ahold of the fancy digital video camera again, I would like to start shooting some short comedy sketches featuring local actors/writers to post up on TCOW.org. Let me know if you’re interested. You can send a script for the bit, or just ideas if you’ve got some. I’m also looking for people interested in acting. I’m hoping that by the summer we can be producing one per week or so. I know there’s some talent hiding out there. Let’s get it out there!

Cuba ‘08by: Calvin - [Calvin's bLog, Owen Sound Events] |

Start saving your money! February 2008 we’re all going on vacation to Cuba! Assuming things don’t go to hell when Castro dies, it’s a pretty fantastic, AND cheap place to visit. So if you can save up around $900 by next February you can get yourself airfare both ways, and a week stay at an all-inclusive 4 star resort. We’ll firm up the details as the year goes by, but you’d be wise to start saving now. I calculated that $90 a month should be sufficient.
