OR anything like that

for goodness sake, DON’T click it! If you do happen to click it, and a box pops up asking you if you’d like to Save or Run the file, for goodness sake, hit cancel!

It seems more than a few people have voluntarily run this executable on their computers, thus helping propogate a nifty little MSN virus.

Here’s a tip. NEVER run an executable file that gets e-mailed, messaged, or automatically pops up, regardless of who it appears to be coming from.

I’ve been hunting around for methods to get rid of this virus, or whatever it is, but I can’t find anything more than a few forum posts by people who have the same problem. But I’ll keep trying and if I find anything I’ll post it up here.

Note: I don’t have this myself. I just noticed that I got the message from several people on my contact list, so I’m assuming more than a few of you have infected yourself.

I suppose I should update people so no-one thinks my computer is dead. Or me. In the end I didn’t get any of the new stuff working. The video card just won’t work. I may try to troubleshoot it later. And the RAM seems to have been making my computer randomly reboot every few minutes. So I had to take it all out, and I’m back to my original hardware. On the upside, I downloaded HalfLife2:Episode 1 and it seems to work just fine with my current setup.

I got some new RAM and a Radeon x800 from my brother while I was in Toronto. I couldn’t get the video card to work last night, but I was working on it in a very tired and stressed out condition. I just barely got my computer up and running again on the original hardware after attempting to get the new stuff going.

Having slept a good while now, and feeling much less stressed out, I’m going to take my computer apart, every last bit of it, and rearrange everything so that the x800 will fit properly. Also there’s a small issue with my computer randomly rebooting every few minutes when I click on things. I have to run a test on it somehow, which involves finding a floppy disk. I haven’t seen one of those in about a decade.

The point is… there’s a small chance that my computer might not come back. I really really hope that doesn’t happen. But if you don’t see a post that says “Yay it worked!” before tomorrow, you can probably assume either my computer is dead, or I am.

If the polytheistic societies of the past had posessed computers, there would definitly have been a computer god, and he would have been more difficult to appease than any of the other gods.

Sorry for the delay folks! I just found a bunch of ‘Worst Webcomic Ever’s sitting in my box of Things To Do, so I scanned some of them in.

Dim(sum)rave4 was a success, thanks to all you crazy cats who showed up and made it a blast. Despite there being several other interesting events and parties going on in town last night, the turnout here was teriffic. There were some old folk, some new people, some I hadn’t seen in years. Devon tried to “fix” my DVD-Burner. Chinese buffet before drinking… possibly a bad idea, but still delicious. This time we didn’t anger the neighbour by making too much noise out back, thanks probably to the lovely weather. Despite the host of disasters leading up to the party, it went off without a hitch. Thanks to everyone for coming out! We’ll probably be having another one in early February, so keep your eyes here for the details.

Devon’s Fat Cat is going to die if it doesn’t find a new home soon! If you would like this cat, please comment here asap. It’s freee to a good home. Devon feels you should know that the cat can be tempermental, and doesn’t take well to small children and old ladies, so if you have either of those you probably shouldn’t take it. Please don’t let this fat cat die, or Devon will cry even more than when I wouldn’t give her muffins.

My excuse should be that I’ve been very busy working. But I really haven’t. Where did the week go? I need it back.

I’ll be working at The Store today from around 11am to 6pm. It’s the store right beside Dave Fromager’s Music and More. Feel free to drop in and check the place out, or to just provide some company to aleviate the boredom.

Google has found yet another way to steal my life, hours at a time. Now users can upload photos to this internet service, and icons appear on Google Earth at the location they were taken, so you can click and see those pictures. It’s already stolen half an hour of my time this morning, and I expect much more in the future.

The Green Guild held a protest in front of Owen Sound city hall today, against secret trials and security certificates and such. A photographer from the Sun Times was there, so we might be in the newspaper soon. Hooray! (Update: Here’s the article!)

In other news, it looks like the Best New Year’s Party Ever is probably going to take place at The Robs’ house. I’ll be working with Rob and Robert to plan this party. Keep checking here for details, which should be ready very soon.

My dad gave me a couple of front row tickets to the Toronto All Star Big Band Christmas Show, tomorrow (Saturday the 9th) at 2pm at the Roxy. If anyone is interested in going with me, please phone, message, or e-mail me ASAP! EDIT: I found someone to come with.

I’m going to go to the hospital emergency room as soon as the batteries for my mp3 player are done charging. It’s not really an emergency (I don’t think), but I don’t have a family doctor in town. There’s just a weird sharp pain in my chest every time I inhale. It wouldn’t be a problem at all if I didn’t have to breath so much. Anyways, I’ve had it before, when I lived in Woodstock, and the doctors there said there was nothing wrong. I don’t think that nothing should hurt as much as this, so I’ll give the OS docs a chance to try their skills on it. If they can’t find anything wrong either, oh well. It went away on its own last time, and probably will again. I’m just curious.

EDIT: A couple of people have convinced me that going would be a waste of time and not help at all, and as I already thought that to start with, I’ve decided not to bother. It still hurts, and if it doesn’t go away on its own after a few days, or gets much worse, then maybe I’ll change my mind. But for now, I’m just hungry.

A friend of mine recently got kicked out of his house. He’s asleep on a chair here right now. I wish I had more to offer than a place to sleep, but I feel pretty hopeless and demotivated myself. Where do you go when the people who have been providing your motivation lose theirs? I’m mostly worried that in this state I’m failing to help anyone else who probably need it even more than I do right now. It seems like everyone’s going through something crazy right now! I just hope that we all make it though the month without suffering too much collateral damage, and that next year will get better. The whole year seems like a write-off. In the meantime, please take everything I say and do with a healthy dose of understanding. I’m trying my hardest to not affect the collective with my own problems any more than I need to to deal with them.

The funny bit is, we never made it to Karaoke, OR Ken’s birthday party. We spent the whole night trying to make decisions. A few minor decisions got made, but not that key one, obviously. But in working up to it I think we managed to negate the need for that final decision anyways, and had a lot of fun in the process. Mary, you need to party with us more!

This week will be mostly working to get The Green Guild’s webpage up and running as quickly as possible. Andrew Simon is patient, but we’d all like to see it up soon. And I want to get it over with so I can move on to other exciting projects for December.

Edit: Nevermind. I found my hat. It was in my house where I always leave it. Apparently I didn’t take it to the party. I might have been drunk.

I’ve had a fun little vacation from “blogging”. It was a hectic sort of week I guess. Things seem potentially better now though. The guestbook thingy is still up, just in a different place now. You can find it in the menu to your right under Things To Do. It’s the link that says “TCOW Spam“.

I’m trying to shorten my list of blogs on the menu, so if you haven’t updated in the last month, you might see your blog link dissapear. If you update again let me know though, and I’ll put it back.

There’s some exciting events coming up this month, like DimRave 4, a Very Special X-mas Eve party, and New Year’s. I’ll be making some pretty flyers to post up soon.
