 change of plans

I’ve decided I’d like to make my music video a bit darker than originally planned. Therefore I’m changing the song I’m using. I’m going to do the video for deep, a song I made a while ago. I hope to start shooting video soon, up on the West Rocks mostly on some nice day. I have to do some re-engineering on it before I can do the editing though, since it was done on a 486 and some of the samples are only 8-bit. I also want to use my dad’s grand piano to redo the piano bits. It should be fun!

Toronto

Thursday: found out I was going to Toronto with my parents to visit my siblings.

Friday Night: found out I got to get up at 8am to be picked up for the trip. Managed to squeeze in a few hours of sleep before then.

Saturday: got to Wayne Manor. Visited Andrew and Joanna. Wandered down to the bus station to meet Holly and Devon. Ate at a fancy Chinese place. Ate supper at Rebecca’s. Mother decided Owen Sound is too far out of the way to take me home to that night. Martin called to cancel the BBQ I forgot to tell him I couldn’t make it to, because he had to make a trip to Toronto. I opted to get a ride home with him the next morning.

Sunday: Waited. All day. Martin forgot to tell me he had a lunch meeting with his aunt, so we couldnt’ go until after that. Later realized that it was actually a supper meeting. Waited some more. Left toronto finally at midnightish. Got back to OS and dropped off at Devon’s after 2am.

Monday: It was so hot last night I couldn’t sleep at all. Still haven’t really. Got back to my house finally around noon. Morgan came over with Christian this afternoon. He screamed a lot. What a funny kid.

Toronto is neat, but anywhere sucks when you want to be somewhere else. I’m out of service tonight, but tomorrow I might be up for some things. Give me a call beforehand though please. Time for a nap now.

 Wankers!

To the several folk who said they might drop by and visit me tonight: I won’t be here. I’m sorry! I will be up on the East Side helping Morgan wrangle a yung’un, so if you’re going to be up that way, give me a call and maybe I’ll come out to play.

Tomorrow I’m going to Toronto. I think. I’ll be gone all day.

Sunday TV Night is NOT open invitation. You’ll know when it is, because it will be posted in my journal as an event, and will bear the words “EVERYONE IS INVITED!” or something similar. So PLEASE don’t randomly show up Sunday evening if I haven’t spoken to you personally. Don’t feel sad though. It’s not that I don’t like you. I just need one night to relax, where I control the social environment here.

Also, whoever knocked on my back door today around noon, if you’d waited just 10 seconds more I was at the door. Sometimes I don’t like to answer the door naked, and finding my housecoat in the dark when I’ve just woken up can be a challenge. I don’t mind getting woken up by visitors, but it sucks getting woken up and then no-one being at the door by the time I get there. :(

Now I’m just wasting time… Bye!

I hacked together a bit of PHP code to make a photo gallery viewer. It’s nothing fancy, but it works. I’ll be using it for any galleries of events or such that we have in the future. Right now the archive of the TCOW Webcam is there. There are nearly 300 pictures in it! You can look at it here:

http://www.tcow.org/picviewer

I’ll add more features, like possibly a thumbnail gallery, in the future. I’ve got more important things to do at the moment… like dishes.

It's a Spider!

We got a new pet. It’s a little black spider we captured at Devon’s. We put it in a little aquarium with some sticks, leaves, and a rock. Morgan’s going to catch bugs for him. She named him “Broadie Zorax, Spider of Death”. We hope he likes it here.

 waiting for fall

bored of killingIt’s too damn hot out for me! I know a lot of you weirdos like this sort of weather. I really do enjoy the clear skies, happy woodland creatures, and increased mobility due to lack of snow that this season brings about. And frankly I don’t take too well to the cold either. But my body also doesn’t seem to like the heat much. A few hours in the sunlight will leave me feeling exhausted and burnt, no matter how much sunscreen I put on. It’s a shame, because I really do want to spend more of my time outdoors. The trick is to find a nice shady spot to sit completely motionless.

I’m finished the video of Devon’s kids, and I managed to burn one copy to DVD before my player flaked out. It’s an LG. I’ve heard they’re good. And mine did work pretty reliably for the first four or five hundred DVDs I burnt with it. Now it seems to be sucessfully burning only one out of five DVD-Rs. That’s not a good ratio. I would try to talk my father into getting me a new one, as I haven’t got funding for one right now, and also since a large majority of the burning that’s been done on it has been for his school plays, but he did recently get me a 250Gb USB HDD, so I don’t think I will push it.

I have a couple more small projects to do, which mostly involve transfering miscellaneous footage to DVD for people. Minimal editing, so it will be easy. After that I want to start on the music video. I’m going to leave the DimRave2.0 promo editing at least until I’ve got the shooting all done for the music video. It’s not quite so important. Sorry ravers, you’ll just have to wait. The woods look beautiful now. A lot of the ideas for it are still kind of abstract. I expect we’ll figure out a lot of the shots while we’re out there playing in the woods. It’s worked out for other projects fairly well. This could turn out fantastic. It could suck. We’ll see. Now I’m off to hit things, like my DVD burner.

 The Weekend Review

 by: Calvin - [Calvin's bLog]
Calvin

Friday
Bush Party 1.0. To celebrate Ranae and Devon’s birthdays we took them up to the West Rocks and they got good and drunk. Devon smashed up her DVD player, and then we lit it on fire. It was good times all around. A small party of us decided to go home around 2am, and took the back way since it seemed easier at the time. Unfortunately we managed to miss two important left turns and ended up travelling for an extra hour or more along a perilous, rocky cliffside path. We made it back eventually, and no-one died, this time.

Saturday
Devon and I hopped on a bus to Toronto to attend DarkRave. It was pretty good. I finally got to see Lady Bass. She put on a great set. The bus driver remembered us from other trips and asked lots of questions about our raving. I nabbed the back seat of the bus and managed to sleep the whole way home.

Sunday
TV & Taco night. We managed to cram around 15 people into my house. We had to hook up a second TV so everyone could see. The tacos were delicious. We might try this again some time. Everything is reruns, but that’s ok. They’re all funny the second time too.

 reminders

 by: Calvin - [Calvin's bLog]
Calvin

I’m almost done rendering the video for OSCVI’s Fiddler on the Roof. It should be done by 3:30. That’s when my dad is coming to pick it up. Yay… The increased ambient heat in the room combined with the massive amount of processing that video rendering takes is jacking up the tempurature of my processor to unhealthy levels, so I had to take the side of the case off and point a big fan at its insides. It’s helping, but not very practical.

The next video project in my books is to compile a bunch of random footage I have of snug bunny and her children and put it on a DVD so she can give it to her grandparents. It sounds easy, but I’m going to have to sift through all the footage carefully and remove all the expletives so we can keep the grandparents in the dark as to where Issac learned to say “What the fuck??” at the dinner table.

After that, depending on weather and how I feel, I will either finish the DimRave2 promo, or start shooting my music video. I’m afraid we will get eaten alive by bugs. I’ve also been watching a lot of music videos lately and counting the number of shots, and it’s rediculous. There’s typically an average of one shot per second. Obviously I can chop up longer shots, but it’s still going to be a lot of work. And I want to use a lot of neat camera shots and editing effects to make the video very pretty eye candy. And snug’s going to be running around the woods in a nice dress, chasing an inanimate stuffed animal. Even if the video turns out crap, it should be fun.

Time to get cleaning. We’ve got a party to go to tonight and a lot of things to do before it.

Alice in Wonderland - The Musical - Rated X??Session Start (Wed May 31 15:04:49 2006)
Calvin: OH, ha ha, i have a funny story
Calvin: well, two acutually
Calvin: but i’m only going to tell you one.
Calvin: you get to pick….
Owen: Ummm…story 2
Calvin: ok, that’s probably the better one, lucky you!
Calvin: I set out to download disney’s Alice In Wonderland, a) because Devon’s been talking about it a lot, and b) as inspiration for my music video maybe
Calvin: SO…
Calvin: I type ‘er in to LimeWire. Good old LimeWire, and wait for the results. There were two legitimate movie files, so I download them both.
Calvin: The first one is indeed an old Disney version (apparently there are like 30 different remakes of Alice In Wonderland, starting with a silent film version from 1903 (I bet you didn’t even know they made films then, eh? I didn’t.))
Calvin: I load up the second, and it’s some weird live action one. I wans’t aware there was a live action version done recently. The first 20 minutes of plot development were a bit weak. Looked like it was done in the 70s. Lots of singing and dancing and bad acting.
Calvin: Then alice falls into the water and has to take her clothes off, and I am suprised to discover that I’ve stumbled upon a feature length X-rated musical version of Alice In Wonderland.
Owen: hahahha oh man! WTF
Owen: hahahahahahhahaha that’s hilarious
Calvin: yeah
Calvin: it IS!
Calvin: the production value is on par with normal films from that era, and there’s no nudity or other indication that it’s a porn for the first 25 minutes.
Calvin: I think I might send it to Devon without warning her.. tee hee hee….
Owen: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH You should!
Calvin: nah. i think she’d get angry at me.
