 weekend

On Saturday my family all showed up and we went to see OSCVI’s presentation of Fiddler on the Roof. It was pretty impressive for a high school play. Much more exciting that the bunch of musicals I had to edit before. Unfortunately due to copyright laws we weren’t allowed to distribute this one, so there was no sense bothering with all the fancy camera and editing work. It would have been fun.

The best bit is that I got two shiny black monitors from dys4ik to replace the one I’d blown up. There’s a pic on the webcam section at the moment. They’re quite nice. I should probably do some more work on some video stuff now, as that was my excuse for getting these.

Morgan got strep throat. It may be contagious. I hope I don’t get it.

Sunday was family fun day at my parents place in Paisley. It was good times. There was bacon, and what more could you ask for. We saw friends of the family that I haven’t seen in over a decade, plus my dutch grandma yelled at me for smoking. In a loving way, of course.

Today it’s 30 degrees out. Seems excessive to me, but I don’t get to make these decisions. I might venture outside. It might be too hot. It’s cold and dark here in my appartment and I kind of like it like that right now.

Short Beaked EchidnaLack of updates due to my house being a complete disaster. Due to the flooding we had to move everything from one side of the house to the other. This wouldn’t have been so bad if the other side of the house hadn’t already been over capacity with stuff. People are coming to put the carpet back in this evening which will allow us to return things to their normal messy state.

Morgan and I are also both sick, with entirely different ailments. With my luck we’ll trade them and be sick for a few more days. I like my illness better. I only have extra fluids coming out of my nose.

Devon has managed to talk me into attending DarkRave on June 3. Lady Bass is spinning, and I’ve been trying to see her for a while now but keep missing. Hopefully nothing bad will happen that will prevent it this time. SO, those of you in Toronto (except James who is doing some silly thing in New Orleans) Devon and I will be there, and I’ll be dropping by to see you hopefully.

Video editing has also been slightly sidetracked due to illness and flood. I’ll get back on track with that after the weekend. There will be exciting stuff here soon. I also hope to work on a music video for my ambient tune in the very near future. It will be a bunch of eye candy editing mostly. I’m probably going to forgo making a movie this summer and focus my energies on making the music video look damn good. Also, I’m having trouble coming up with a script. If anyone has a script for a short film they’d like to see, I’d be glad to work with them on the shooting and editing end.

That’s all for now. I must get back to cleaning. Scientists are wasting all their time trying to discover a cure for cancer or something and have yet neglected to make dishes that wash themselves, or at least robots who will wash them for me. Damn scientists! If there’s one thing that Half Life has taught me it’s that scientists should never be trusted.

1 billion people have died in the flood so far, and we’re even reporting acts of canibalism… :)

It’s 7:30am and the plumber just showed up. After bailing water until 3 in the morning and falling asleep at least an hour later, I’m in a suprisingly good mood. This may change when I realize how tired and sore I am.

It’s very wet in here.

 Flood

Crazy drunkards! So we had a little flood in my appartment tonight. At around 11pm the hot water pipe under the shower broke, and water started spewing out at quite a rapid rate. In under 10 minutes nearly half of the appartment was under 4 inches of water. To make matters more exciting, my landlord changed their number, and after tracking down their new one, there was no answer. So I left a message, urging them to call back as quickly as possible. Finally she arrived and we shut the water off for the whole building, because the pipes to the shower are not easily accesible. Morgan and I tried bailing out water for a while. After a few hours it was clear that we won’t be able to finish this job tonight without proper equipment. My dad’s bringing a shop vac by tomorrow. In the meantime, all our posessions, the majority of which were stacked on the flooded half of the appartment, are inconviniently relocated on top of the bed and in the living room area. After a hectic weekend, this was supposed to be a quiet relaxing evening. Regardless, no-one panicked, and we had a fun time trying to deal with the situation. Now, time for bed. Hooray!

 Long Weekend

1 bottle of Peach Schnapps + 1 bottle of Vodka = headache in the morning.

I have no regrets!

EDIT: Sunday morning, and I’m still hungover from that. Wow. Still, it was worth it.

 What I did today…

 by: Calvin - [Calvin's bLog]
Calvin

Owen came over after work with a big case of Jolt. We had a Matt Stone and Trey Parker marathon. It was fun. Those are two funny guys! Some day we’re going to have a South Park marathon. It may take several days, and a lot of speed actually. I also downloaded Canibal, the Musical, which is a film Matt and Trey did in high school. I haven’t watched it yet but I hear it’s quite funny. Or weird. Either way, it should be entertaining.

EDIT: I watched Cannibal: The Musical. It was.. interesting. Amusing though. And apparently it was done in college, not high school. In fact, Trey Parker got himself kicked out of film school because he was spending too much time on Canibal and not going to classes. Heh…

 No TCOW Long Weekend Event?

It appears that due to scheduling conflicts there will be no TCOW event for the long weekend. I expect you’ll all find something else entertaining to do. Have fun and be safe!

by: Calvin - [Calvin's bLog, Owen Sound Events]
Calvin

We’re looking into the possibility of having a TCOW bonfire or something for the upcoming long weekend. Little Kev is looking into a location and definite time. More details soon!

EDIT: Kevin - Call me damnit! We need to make plans, and fast! Also, Rob call me so I can make sure your plans are not on the same night as these plans.

download dimravelogo.mpgFor your viewing pleasure, I’ve uploaded the intro to the video project I’m currently working on. It is, in my humble opinion, one of my most exciting bits of video editing so far. The whole video may or may not be put online when I finish depending on size issues. Previous downloads are at the bottom of the sidebar ->.

 TCOW Fun Day review

 by: Calvin - [Calvin's bLog]
Calvin

The adventure went well. A handful of diehard TCOWers showed up, and we played in the park for several hours this afternoon. I’ll get the photos up as soon as the Snug Bunny e-mails them to me, and a video shortly. I’ll post more on the event after a short nap, or possibly later.

On the subject of videos, I desperately need to borrow a VGA monitor, 15″ or so, to get some video editing done. My secondary monitor spontaneously died. I’m getting another in the near future, but until then it would be very helpful to be able to borrow one for a short time. If you have an extra lying around, or know someone who does, please contact me as quickly as possible. You’ll be happily rewarded.

EDIT: A digital monitor would also work. I just remembered I have a DV out.

EDIT: I got a monitor. Thanks very much Lorianne!

 More adventuring.

 by: Calvin - [Calvin's bLog]
Calvin

chasing the dragonToday we experimented with sitting on different lawns around town. The lawn behind Pioneer Gas is quite nice. Very well manicured, with some nice evergreen trees. It’s also sheltered from the wind. Unfortunately it was also quite small. At the next lawn we came to we made a collective decision not to do any sitting. It looked as though someone had a shed there at one point, but then gotten bored of it and burnt it down. The lawn was strewn with charred bits of random unidentifiable junk. Finally we arrived at a big hill on the way to the hospital, which we treked through a dried up river bed and scared some ducks to get to. It had a terrific view, and the grass, though long, was very soft. Michelle however, noticed some small holes which may have potentially housed snakes or some sort of unfriendly rodent. Later, Owen and I caught a bus by jumping out into the road to stop it. The bus drivers in this town are all rediculously friendly! On the next day with nice weather that a few of us have nothing else to do I plan to test out some other lawns around town, maybe with a picnic.

On our adventure we also took some time to try to plan our upcoming Quest. We had a few good ideas, like hunting for dragons (or one of Devon’s kids dressed like a dragon) but Issac didn’t like the idea of wandering around in the woods by himself. He did however put on the dragon costume in his house for our amusement. Michelle suggested a treasure hunt. My idea was instantly vetoed due to a high potential of jail time.

What? Stop it!To cap off the day, I managed to land a free Spicey Chicken Crunchwrap Supreme (wow, typing that out makes me appreciate hamburgers with simple names like Big Mac’s more). I’ve been into Taco Bell three times already to try the Spicey Crunchwrap, and each time they’ve been out of them. This time they weren’t, hooray! Then, as I was waiting for my order to be called, they called the number before mine and woefully explained to the fellow that they had just run out of spicey chicken. A short while later Eric, the best Taco Bell employee in the Universe, brought over my food and let me know that the Crunchwrap was indeed not a spicey one, but that there would be more ready in a bit, and he was going to make me one on the house.

Then Devon’s one year old, Christian, stepped on my testicles while poking his finger into my eye.

Tomorrow is the big First TCOW Event of the Summer. We’re relying mostly on word of mouth advertisement, so I hope the turnout will be big enough. It should be worthwhile regardless. We’ll put a lot more effort into the next event.

 Adventures

 by: Calvin - [Calvin's bLog]
Calvin

Today we went on an adventure. It started when Jazzpirate showed up. It was nice out, and having nothing important to do, and he also having no set agenda, we decided that an adventure was called for. On our journey we ran into Rob, Jamie, and Tunga at Oor Wee Bit o Scottish Fare, where I ate a delicious salad. Those boys were busy having an RPG, or Fake Adventure, so they wouldn’t come along. No matter. We soon ran into Owen, who happily joined our pary. Not long after we were found by Michelle and the dog (Daisy). There’s nothing like a hyperactive dog to make an adventure even more adventurous. After sitting on a lawn for a bit we decided that walking would help with the adventuring, and a coin toss determined that we would head North along the West side of the harbour. Before we even got across the river, we were accosted by Kyle, who reluctantly joined our merry band of adventurers. We walked along the railroad tracks as far as we could, which isn’t far at all, and played on the train for a short while. We then wandered aimlessly North along the harbour until Eric Lamont called and desired to meet up with us. So we waited by the “skating park” for him to catch up. While waiting, we ran into Ed, who is a neat guy indeed. Eric showed up. We sat by the water for a while. When we decided we should head North again, we lost Kyle and Ed, who decided to head back into town for various reasons. We ventured on, past the boat launch. Jazzpirate and I left humorous post-it notes in random places. There was a sign on the door of the building at the boat launch that said “If you have any questions or problems, please ask the attendant or call this number:”, so Eric called the number. He told whoever answered that he had a gambling problem. “I’m playing blackjack, and I have a King and a 6. The dealers at (can’t remember the number). Should I stay or hit?”. The guy told him that he should call someone else for that problem, but that personally he’d stay. Eric then decided that he needed to go find food right away, and that he was not keen on futher adventuring. So the four of us remaining treked on Northwards until we got to the Rainbow Boat Club. I almost dropped the dog in the water there. But it was mostly her fault. The weather up there was considerably colder, so we decided it would be best to head back. I motioned for setting up camp there, but half of the party was too tired and cold to do so. So we returned. On the way back, the dog tried to eat some bicyclists. I abandoned the party in search of food and rest then, and came home and promptly felt ill and layed down for the rest of the evening.

In the near future, we’re going to go on a quest. It’s like an adventure, but even more exciting, and with a point to it. Anyone who is interested in partaking in this quest should forward me their work schedules, or more usefully, their free time schedules, for the next few weeks. We’ll try to arrange something that lots of people can get to. Be forewarned, it may involve much danger and certain peril, and probably a lot of walking. Bring shoes and water.

 TCOW Weekend Event

 by: Calvin - [Calvin's bLog]
Calvin

Alright. Who’s available this weekend (probably Saturday the 6th, afternoon) for a kickoff TCOW Event. I’m thinking if the weather is nice, some sort of gathering down at Harrison Park involving food, music, sports, and whatever else we think of. Advertising is going to have to be mainly word of mouth, so if there’s enough people interested to get a decent sized group together, we’ll go ahead with planning something and you’ll have to get everyone you know out there. Give me feedback ASAP so we can get this shindig off the ground if it’s going to happen.

 monday.. yay!

 by: Calvin - [Calvin's bLog]
Calvin

Today I start working on things. The first project on my list is to get a new TCOW.org frontpage up. There aren’t any events planned yet, the announcements for which the main purpose of the page will be. But I need to put up some information about the sorts of things that will be going on I suppose. For the record, there will NOT be a forum. In the future I might put one up, like over the winter or something, but for now we’re just going to use TCOW as a platform to launch real life events in the Owen Sound area.

I’ve just realized that my brain needs a considerable amount more caffiene or something before it’s up to par. Just trying to construct sentences is proving difficult at the moment. So… more later.
